Gold’s Gym Seeks Ohio Franchise Owners, Conversions

(FranBest Fitness Franchises) According to Lisa Bernard-Kuhn’s story in the Cincinnati Enquirer, Gold’s Gym International is looking to reestablish itself in the Cincinnati market (and elsewhere in Ohio) to replace its former franchisee, Global Fitness Holdings Inc.Â
Lexington-based Global Fitness Holdings Inc. has 10 fitness centers in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky with other locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. The former Gold’s Gym franchisee went independent, rebranding as Urban Active.
Royce Pulliam, owner of Urban Active, has ambitious growth plans that include expanding outside its current region with 50 new clubs in the next four years.
The defection of Global Fitness Holdings has left Gold’s no locations in Ohio or Kentucky. The closest locations to Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky now are in Indianapolis.
Gold’s Gym is actively seeking franchise owners in the Cincinnati, Cleveland & Columbus markets. They are hoping to find find one or more independent gym operators who are willing to convert their locations to the Gold’s Gym franchise and brand. Otherwise they’re seeking new franchise owners capable of making the $2M - $3M investment per gym.
Gold’s Gym International reportedly has 475 franchised and 64 company-owned fitness centers across the nation.
It also has 135 locations in 23 countries, and upwards of 150 gyms that currently in the process of opening some time the next 18 to 24 months.
