Snap Fitness, a 24-hour exercise center, is opening Oct. 27 at 811 S. Perryville Road, which is two blocks south of the State Street-Perryville Road intersection.
The owners are John and Jean Lopez of Cherry Valley and the manager is Jan Lavern, who said she has been in the personal fitness industry for seven years. Lavern said Snap has all the amenities of a larger club just in a smaller setting. The building is 3,000 square feet, and customers are not required to sign contracts to join.
“A lot of people just don’t want to work out in a large club,” Lavern said. “We aren’t competing with places like the YMCA or Peak Fitness.”
Snap is a health-club chain based in Chanhassen, Minn., that was founded in 2003. It had 423 stores by the end of 2006 and had a goal to have 1,300 by the end of this year.
There are more than 1,200 health clubs in Illinois and more than 30 listed in the Rockford-area Yellow Book.
